The ASPIRE community is excited to share the launch of a new graduate certificate in Environmental Sensing, Data, and Modeling! This certificate is a cutting-edge program designed to equip students with the technical skills needed to address today’s most pressing environmental challenges.
This transcripted certificate offers a flexible pathway for graduate students across disciplines to build expertise in geospatial analysis, environmental modeling, remote sensing, and data communication. Students complete 12–15 credit hours, selecting courses across four core areas:
Spatial Data Science
Modeling Environments
Spatial Data Communication
Remote Sensing
The curriculum draws from a diverse set of departments and tools, including GIS, programming for geospatial applications, water resources modeling, geomorphologic analysis, environmental systems modeling, and interactive web mapping.
This certificate is open both to current UNM graduate students who want to enhance their degree program and to non-degree-seeking students pursuing a standalone credential through the Open Graduate option.
Students interested in applying or learning more can explore the full catalog details or reach out directly to the certificate’s faculty advisor, Dr. Christopher Lippitt.
This new certificate represents an exciting opportunity for students to deepen their computational and analytical skill sets while engaging with real-world environmental problems across scales.
